Cruising to Slovenia:
Growing interest in Slovenia from cruise operators
The number of cruise ships due to call at Koper this
year has already reached 68, which means 40,000
tourists visiting the largest town on the Slovenian
coast. Tourists cruising the Mediterranean are
pleasantly surprised by what Slovenia has to offer
in the coastal hinterland. The Slovenian coast is
also an attractive destination for those preferring
a more individual style of maritime tourism.
Koper has an excellent strategic position in the
northern Adriatic. Its port receives high marks in
many evaluations, among other reasons because ships
dock almost in the middle of the old town centre.
Tourists have direct access to the city, which
boasts a thousand-year history, picturesque
architecture and various attractions in its
hinterland – the Land of
Refošk, the
famous wine, the Karst with its many natural
attractions and Istria with its traditional
culinary wealth.
Thanks to the port in Koper, Slovenia can easily be
accessed by sea. Lovers of maritime tourism come to
Slovenia this way and find shelter in three
marinas – Portorož, Koper and Izola, where the
shipyard also has a special Yacht Centre offering
technical services. All the marinas provide fuel,
which can also be obtained at the public piers in
Piran and Izola. The Slovenian maritime border
crossings in Koper and Piran operate throughout the
year, while the one in Izola operates from May until
October.
